Major Achievements

In the 2014/2015 session, it was recorded that the department was awarded grants by the National Communication Commission (NCC) for three of its proposals submitted. In this session, precisely on the 19th of July, 2016 a two man team from NCC paid the department a visit to appraise the progress of the research work for which cash was disbursed. The head of department, Prof. E. N. Onwuka made presentations on behalf of the department to the team.

Telecommunication Engineering was among the departments that actively participated in the 6th edition of the Nigerian Universities Research and Development Fair (NURESDEF). Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka Anambra state hosted the fair between 7th and 12th of March, 2016. A total of five (5) undergraduate projects were exhibited during the fiar, these include:
i. Design and Construction of Multipurpose Solar Rechargeable GSM Phone Battery Charger
ii. Design and Development of GSM Car Anti-Theft Security System
iii. Design and Construction of Locally Made GSM Battery
iv. Design and Construction of a Remote Controlled AC Appliances using GSM Network
v. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

Research activities are currently ongoing in the department and it is anchored by both staff and graduate students in the department. Sample publications which are output of research activities by staff and graduate students in the department can be viewed on individual staff pages.


The Department of Communications Engineering at FUT Minna is structured to be a Center of Excellence in Communications engineering education for the benefit of the mankind.

The Department of Communications Engineering will build capacity and develop human capital to the highest level in the field of communications engineering through pragmatic and dynamic training, research, and developmental services of high standards that meet the demands of the society and will stand the test of time and space.
